Frequently Asked Questions

On Solar Energy:

  • Where can I find information on energy conservation, solar energy, renewable resources, etc.?
  • See our Hot Links

  • Please tell me about the industry.
  • Refer to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and The Source for Renewable Energy.

  • What future growth do you expect Solar energy to experience?
  • For humanity's sake, to manage the necessary substitution of renewable energy sources for the demands we are currently making on fossil fuels, we must increase the use of photovoltaics and other systems world wide by perhaps 35% or more per year. We are calling this great mobilization "Apollo II." Renewable Energy is about to become a profound growth industry, almost as dramatic as the electronic commerce which has been fostered by the emergence of the World Wide Web.

  • What graduate schools and programs I should apply to in order to become involved?
  • Many members of the American Solar Energy Society and the International Solar Energy Society are university professionals. I would encourage people to consider foreign study. Learn about the Third World, because you're likely to be living in such a world before long anyway (due to the coming of the global Hubbert Peak). Be the first kid on your block to get adjusted to the (sane) life-style of the 21st century!

  • Can you point me in the right direction for information, product and/or contractor sourcing, etc.? I am particularly interested in water heater applications.
  • See our Hot Links above that list Solar Energy resources. For solar water heating and other home uses, we recommend Zomeworks, PO Box 25805, Albuquerque, NM 87125, 505.242.5354. (Wholesale only -- contact them for dealers' names.) They also offer Passive Tracking Mounts for PV Modules and CoolCell Battery Enclosures -- very practical and economical systems.

    On Organic Gardening:

  • Where would I look on the net to find info on constructing and maintaining a compost bin for a home garden? I live in Southern California on a rocky granite hillside.
  • EcoHome offers an information packet about Composting. Another useful source can tell you all about vermicomposting (worms)!
